Basketball Skills Training & Player Development
Welcome to THE LAB BASKETBALL family. We offer the very first Basketball Skills Training & Player Developmental program exclusively held at its own facility in Milton, Ontario. We work with Professional, College, University athletes (men and women) ranging all the way down to 12 years old (boys and girls), inclusive of a variety of skill levels. We strive to challenge, train, and develop every athlete that participates in our program to reach their maximum potential as a basketball player while instilling the core values of life along the way. At the same time, this will provide a solid foundation which can help them excel to become successful in all phases of their lives through hard work and competition. Our goal is to prepare and arm athletes with the proper skill set and confidence to make their school, rep, pro or any team they try out for each and every year if they choose to pursue basketball at the next level.

For the Love of the Game
As the Founder and Head Trainer of THE LAB Basketball, JP Albano's experiences have taught him that hard work, dedication, determination, and perseverance are among some of the key attributes that help you to be successful in basketball, as well as in life. It was through those virtues that a door of opportunity opened in 2000, where he was approached by a recruiter during a basketball tournament, one in which he delivered a championship and was named the Tournament MVP. A few months later, JP Albano took his talents overseas and was offered a contract by a sports agent to play the game that he loved. During his Rookie year, JP delivered yet another championship and was also the recipient of a “Mythical Five” award for his successes throughout the regular season. However, during the off-season, JP began to miss his family and, also due to other personal reasons, he made one of the hardest decisions of his life and flew back to his hometown, Toronto, for good. Realizing he still loved the game, the pace, and the action, he wanted to give back and share his knowledge with the youth, and entered the coaching and training world.
JP Albano moved to Milton, Ontario, where he was selected as the Head Coach for a youth boys basketball REP team in 2014. Through intense and rigorous training of the mind and body, his team earned a Division 1 (triple AAA) spot on the Ontario Basketball ranking charts by mid-season. This is the highest level of basketball standards in the province of Ontario. JP Albano has completed the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) which is a requirement as per the appropriate stages of Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD). JP and his team have earned several trophies throughout the GTA and have brought home championships in U.S. based AAU tournaments in New York and Pennsylvania.
After several years of basketball exposure within the Milton community, JP came to the realization that there was an increasing need and demand for basketball training within the city. Many of the available programs were either team based only, or comprised of large camps which all bring about their own advantages, however, there were no facilities in Milton where athletes were able to participate in private or small group basketball and strength & conditioning training to enhance, refine, and further develop their overall skill set. JP feels that more reps, and a more personalized trainer to player ratio will help individuals improve on their game while increasing their physical and mental wellness.
This is what led to the emergence of THE LAB Basketball.
Improve Your Game
Private & Semi-Private Sessions
Participants in these sessions will be put through a series of intense 1 ball and 2-ball handling and pin-point passing drills, efficient catch and release shooting clinics, unique and creative ways to create space off the dribble into a shot or a pass. Trainers will teach different and effective ways to attack the rim and finish with finesse as well as contact. Medicine balls, pylons, stationary defenders, agility ladders and other trainer equipment will sometimes be used to help increase and improve different skill sets. In a personal training session you may also play 1 on 1 against the trainer and be taught ways to not only beat your defender but stop your opponent as well. Be prepared also to experience fatiguing and demanding strength and conditioning exercises that will require participants to challenge their inner-self to push beyond their limits.
Generally available to ages 12 and up and open to both male and female athletes.
Participants in these group sessions will be pushed to compete. The group will be taught a series of 1 ball and 2-ball handling drills, basic and effective fundamentals such as learning to move without the basketball, jab steps off a triple threat position, defensive positioning, proper shooting technique/form, and many more. Players will be trained team concepts and will learn to be an effective player on and off the ball. Medicine balls, pylons, stationary defenders, agility ladders and other trainer equipment will sometimes be used to help increase and improve different skill sets. In a group you will play 1 on 1, 2 on 2, or 3 on 3 and be taught ways to not only beat your defender by yourself but with your team as well through pick and rolls, extra and accurate passes, several ball screens, or penetration and dishes/kick outs, etc. Be prepared also to experience fatiguing and demanding strength and conditioning exercises that will require participants to challenge their inner-self to push beyond their limits.
Generally available to ages 12 and up and open to both male and female athletes. Groups will be separated by age categories
and may also be separated based on skill level depending on the number of participants enrolled in our sessions. Group sessions are generally sold in packages of 10 sessions and up.

* Should you be arriving by car, we offer plenty of parking at the back of the building for our customers. The entrance to THE LAB Basketball facility is also at the rear side of the building.
